It has been 6 years since Rebecca Marino has stepped onto the courts of the National Bank Cup presented by IGA. The Vancouver native may not yet be back to her career best no. 38 ranking, but she is ready to leave it all out on the court. Her return to the game has been a success to date, as she has been crowned champion at four tournaments since the start of the year.
But none of her victories have compared to the one she got on Tuesday afternoon against the seventh seed and world no. 62 Tatjana Maria. Her dominant 6-2, 6-2 performance is her best win since she decided to come back to tennis and her first main draw win at a WTA event.
“It’s really nice to get the win and be back on home soil. This win is a testament to all of the hard work that I have been putting in recently. I’m enjoying the process and just looking to compete as hard as I can. As long as I know that I have left it all out on the court, I will be satisfied.”
And while she has not set any specific goals for this week, there is no doubt that she will give it her all. A positive sign for the rest of her already successful comeback season.
